P90x: Worthy Number One?

P90x claims to be the top home exercise workout DVD. It uses the claim that 90 days are all that are needed to get ’ripped’(laymen: think hugely toned). beautifulreview.com seem to be very fond of this DVD, especially as it combines nutrition with exercise. This is something that should have been done long ago.
The exercise routines seem to single out compound exercises to work muscle groups rather than individual muscles. The use of cardiovascular work will also improve metabolism and cardiovascular function. Yoga is extremely useful for mobilisation of tissue and flexibilty. Then there are plyometrics - these are the cherry on the proverbial cake. Plyometrics increase speed of muscle and the force of muscle contractions: therefore increasing power.
Beautifulreview.com is correct in saying that confusing the muscles is the way to avoid reaching a plateau, the review is brimming with praise for the DVD, but surely there must be a set-back… perhaps the amount of time to get ’totally ripped’is a bit short with so many exercises to perform. The real worry is that the article mentions nutrition, then says nothing more. Without knowing what we are getting to nourish and support all of this hard work, and with those exercises it will be hard work (at least harder work than rocking up to a clinic and getting liposuction), the article is letting us down a little. It also sounds as though some of the exercises are over-marketed, over-priced advertising gimmicks.
The website review has a number of positives for the DVD, but no negatives… there must be something wrong with it! One issue with home-workout DVDs is that you have no-one to give feedback, therefore you may think you are doing it perfectly but are in-fact doing it incorrectly and risking your health.
Overall, the article paints a pretty good picture of the DVD and you find yourself curious as to what else it has to offer, however, you have to worry that the review has a certain level of bias.
