Beauty Tips for Busy Women on a Budget after Menopause

In my middle age years I decided to return to University after being a long time single parent. My son had completed his degree was now grown and independent. Now decades later I needed to begin a serious financial budget regime if I was going to make it as a full-time student. Firstly I stopped visiting the beauty salon for hair removal, facials treatments, the purchasing of expensive skin-care products and my personal trainer. I’d been lucky to look younger than my years and felt this to be the case of good genes but after one year into menopause and incidentally after dropping my usual beauty regimes, I started to dramatically notice wrinkles, eye bags and collagen loss.

I needed to make a few changes and a small financial investment but these in the long run proved to be cost effective solutions that helped me to get back on track in the beauty department. It’s important to welcome the philosophy of ‘aging gracefully’ but we can slow the process down versus it being abrupt and this in fact has helped me to age gracefully.

There are a few beauty purchases that I recommend for replacing an aesthetician, a personal trainer and expensive beauty products. These solutions can be done at home on your own and therefore save you money. A helpful tip is to use these ideas regularly or daily to achieve results. Here is a list of what I find to be the most important:

Water softener- I found online a portable filter called the ‘Bath Ball Water Faucet Filter’, which allows your body and facial skin to maintain hydration. It also heals skin irritations like eczema and it’s wondrous for the hair in keeping it manageable and soft. Use the Bath Ball 100% whenever you wash up by attaching it to the water facet.

Facial exercises daily- there are many online versions for you to research. Go to Youtube to check out and try varies demonstrations, choosing one or a few programs right for you.

Upper arm exercises with weights- toned arms and shoulders even in the winter are youthful. Also building muscle is good for your bones that tend to weaken due to menopause. My favorite is to follow every other day Youtubes’, 5 Minute Arms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UmRb4UphfM

Dry skin brushing- It’s important to get rid of old dead skin cells that sits on top of the derma to allow new and younger skin to comes through. I use natural bristles to thoroughly brush my skin on the face and body before bathing. It may feel uncomfortable and scratchy at first but soon you’ll begin to enjoy the stimulation and circulation on the skin that is much like a massage. It also works well to resolve cellulite on the back of the leg areas. These natural bristle brushes may be bought online or health food or drug stores.

LED light therapy for the skin- I invested in the Baby Quasar, which can be purchased on the manufacturer’s online website. It is the only technology equipment that can easily be used at home that I find to truly build collagen growth therefore lessening wrinkles as well as healing acne. It is a hand held wand device with led lights coming out of a cone at one end. To save on time doing this treatment daily, I use it whilst doing my homework and reading and have found it beneficial especially on the back of my hands and neck areas where aging skin tends to be most problematic. The Baby Quasar website says it works by “using different red and infrared wavelengths in a unique technology that the called SequePulse.”

Facial and Neck Hydrating and Moisturizing: I have cut back on expensive facial creams that would cost me 5 times more than what I use now. I found that exfoliants like retinols and acids are too harsh for daily use with the dryer skin composition during menopause so this allows me less product purchases. I do still use retinols every fourth night and moisturize (only in the evenings) with the inexpensive castor oil, if this is too heavy you can try the lighter jojoba oil. I know it’s oily but they both work wonders in keeping the skin emollient. I still maintain a few creams, which come from the Oil Olay’s cosmetic line that I layer with the oil at night. In the day I solely use Oil of Olay cream and sunscreen.

Walking- Walk swiftly whenever and wherever possible, climb and descend the stairs as well.

Sleep- no matter what else, the most important improvement for stress and tired skin is getting enough sleep. This may be hard with school studies, but I’ve found it’s more productive to have the schedule to sleep earlier in the evening and get up early in the morning. This type of sleep seems more refreshing and brightens your face as well your disposition. If you’re a ‘night owl’, I suggest working throughout the whole of the entire night till morning and then on the next evening you’ll be more than willing to sleep early.
